Monster the Loch is the first mass participation boat race on Loch Ness. All human powered boat types are welcome to take on this epic challenge. All craft must be sea worthy but as the weather and the Monster can be unpredictable the boats must be sea worthy.
The Loch is 21 miles long, 1 mile wide and who knows how deep!!
In 2022 we saw 94 crews and 350 competitors in boats of all shapes and sizes line up side by side on the start line ready to taken on Nessie!
This crews ranged from Pedalo's and self built boats to international rowers and kayakers.
The race will be run with the wind, the course will run from Dores or Fort Augustus. If you are looking for a challenge, but 21 miles is too far then you can team up and change at Foyers Campsite (roughly halfway).
The conditions this year were beautiful for 14 miles then the tailwind whipped up, which was good for the surfski contingent, as it created a perfect downwinder!
The current record is held by The Great British 8+ who clocked a time of 2hrs 4mins and 57sec this broke the previous record by 22 minutes. The fastest Pedalo is a respectable 7hrs 19mins 35 seconds!
So no excuses, bring your boat and take on the mighty Loch!
