Fort William at the base of Ben Nevis is 32 miles from Fort Augustus.

Fort Augustus is the closest village to the Loch.

Inverness has a train station that links to Edinburgh, London and Aberdeen, there is also the option of the overnight Caledonian Sleeper from  London that adds a fun journey to the event. 

Fort William is also connected to the train line from Glasgow and London
